Biography

Originally from Tehran, Anahita Bamdadian is an artist now based in Montréal. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts from the Azad University in Tehran and a Master’s degree in Art History from the Université de Montréal. Her artistic work explores the notions of identity and presence, offering a nuanced perspective on these themes in the context of contemporary art. Through figurative and abstract painting, She questions the states of identity shared between the artist and his model or subject, highlighting the conceptual and aesthetic role of the background. The latter, often perceived as secondary, becomes in her research an essential and transformative component of the work. The identity of the artist also plays a crucial role in this process, influencing the way in which the pictorial elements dialogue with each other and reinvent themselves.
Recently, her experiments have evolved towards a manipulation of the background, sometimes placed in front of the main subject or merged with it, thus blurring the boundaries between these two elements. This approach creates a duality, where the identity of the background and the subject merge and constantly transform. By disrupting classical conventions of composition, she seek to destabilize recognition and invite reflection on the fluidity of identity in painting, where the identity of the elements of the composition—the subject, the background—intertwines with that of the artist, who is equally changeable and shifting.
Her artistic practice has been showcased in several exhibitions, including at Gaah Gallery in Tehran, the Exhibition Center at Azad University in Tehran, and Galerie B-312 in Montreal. Through her work, Anahita continues to engage deeply with themes of identity and presence, enriching the contemporary art landscape.

BIOGRAPHIE

Originaire de Téhéran, Anahita Bamdadian est une artiste maintenant installée à Montréal. Elle est titulaire d’un baccalauréat en arts visuels de l’Université Azad de Téhéran et d’une maîtrise en histoire de l’art de l’Université de Montréal. Son travail artistique explore les notions d’identité et de présence, offrant une perspective nuancée sur ces thématiques dans le cadre de l’art contemporain. À travers la peinture figurative et abstraite, elle interroge les états d’identité partagée entre l’artiste et son modèle ou sujet, en mettant en lumière le rôle conceptuel et esthétique de l’arrière-plan. Ce dernier, souvent perçu comme secondaire, devient dans ses recherches une composante essentielle et transformative de l’œuvre. L’identité de l’artiste joue également un rôle crucial dans ce processus, influençant la manière dont les éléments picturaux dialoguent entre eux et se réinventent.
Récemment, ses expérimentations ont évolué vers une manipulation de l’arrière-plan, parfois placé devant le sujet principal ou fusionné avec lui, brouillant ainsi les frontières entre ces deux éléments. Cette approche crée une dualité, où l’identité de l’arrière-plan et du sujet se confond et se transforme en permanence. En perturbant les conventions classiques de composition, elle cherche à déstabiliser la reconnaissance et à inviter à une réflexion sur la fluidité de l’identité en peinture, où l’identité des éléments de la composition – le sujet, l’arrière-plan – s’entrelace à celle de l’artiste, qui se révèle tout aussi changeante et mouvante.
Son travail a été présenté dans plusieurs expositions, notamment à la Galerie Gaah à Téhéran, au Centre d’exposition de l’Université Azad à Téhéran et à la Galerie B-312 à Montréal. À travers son travail, Anahita continue de s’intéresser en profondeur aux thèmes de l’identité et de la présence, enrichissant ainsi le paysage artistique contemporain.
